Professional: I have nearly 25 years of experience in the start-up world (Seed to Series D stage) and investment banking (Real Estate and M&A). I have a strong passion for finance and entrepreneurship. I went to Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University for my MBA, The University of Michigan Ross School of Business for my BBA, and I am also a CFA Charterholder.
Personal: I was born in Taiwan and raised in Nebraska. My parents were first-generation immigrants and operated a Chinese restaurant for 30 years. I live in the Bay Area with my wife Emily, our beautiful daughter Riley and our beagle mix Courtney. In 2009, I completed a 155-mile, six day ultramarathon called the Gobi March.
Stoa: CFO at Stoa, a series B stage company that built a tech-enabled marketplace for single-family rental properties (SFRs). The company sourced fully renovated properties from local fix and flip developers and sold them to large institutional buyers of SFRs. The company raised $85 million of equity led by Zeev Ventures and $200 million of debt securitization from GIC.
Reali: CFO at Reali, a series B staged company that provided a one-stop shop for brokerage, mortgage, escrow and title services. The company raised $150 million of equity led by Zeev Ventures, $25 million of venture debt from Western Technology Investment, and $350 million of debt financing from Setpoint and Axos Bank. The company was acquired by Prevu.
Veev: Vice President of Finance at Veev, a series D stage company that reinvented the way homes are built through a vertically integrated, panelized construction technology which built homes 4x faster than traditional construction. The company raised $600 million of equity from BOND, LenX, Zeev Ventures, Fifth Wall, Brookfield Growth, and JLL Spark. The company was acquired by Lennar.
Tudou: Senior Director of Finance at Tudou (NYSE: TUDO), the #2 online video and social media platform in China. Oversaw all of investor relations and corporate development (M&A). The company merged with the #1 player Youku (NYSE: YOKU) and the combined entity was acquired by Alibaba (NYSE: BABA) for $4 billion.
Bear Stearns: Senior Associate in Real Estate Investment Banking at Bear Stearns. Recruited by former managing directors that mentored me at Signal Hill and Deutsche Bank. Transactions include Blackstone Group’s $38 billion acquisition of Equity Office, Highland Hospitality’s $2 billion sale to JER Partners, and Tishman Speyer’s $1.7 billion acquisition of Equity Office’s Chicago assets. The company was acquired by JP Morgan.
Signal Hill: Associate in M&A Investment Banking at Signal Hill Capital. Joined at the firm’s inception, recruited by former managing directors of Deutsche Bank to help build the firm from the ground up. Transactions include acquisition of UEM by Laureate Education, acquisition of Walden University by Laureate Education, debt for Global Insight, and acquisition of Seavey Engineering by ARA. The company was acquired by DC Advisory.
Deutsche Bank: Senior Analyst in Media and Telecom Investment Banking at Deutsche Bank. Top analyst in the group and received the only third year analyst offer given that year. Transactions include $12 billion sale of Infinity Broadcasting to Viacom, $5 billion bond offering for Sprint Corporation, and $1 billion sale of Prodigy to SBC Communications.
